Show Your True Colors for Bridge City!
Volunteer Clean Up Day, Oct. 5th
A WEEKEND FOR BRIDGE CITY!
Who does this involve? All willing citizens of Groves, Nederland and Port Neches.
What is the event? Saturday ‘MID COUNTY MADNESS’ – PNG vs. Nederland football game, Sunday volunteer day.
When does it happen? Saturday October 4th @ 7:30pm, Sunday October 5th @ 9:00am.
Where do I go? Nederland Bulldog Stadium Saturday, Assignment locations TBA Sunday.
Why is this being done? To encourage volunteers to work in Bridge City for 5 hours on one day.
How will it work? Once a team is assembled they are to choose a captain and send the captain only to one of the many assignment locations throughout the Mid County area that will be announced in the near future. If you are an individual that wants to serve, then again, you will go to one of the assignment locations where you will be placed on a team and given your assignment. We encourage volunteers to work a 5 hour shift sometime between the hours of 9 am – 6 pm. If you are ready to commit a team to this endeavor please call 962-4461 or email office@fbcgroves.org and leave your team name and a contact phone number. Individuals do not need to call, just show up at an assignment location near you.
FAQs:
What will we be doing? Simply asking the homeowners what their needs are and seeing if your group can meet any of those needs. It may be to remove wet furniture and household items, pull up flooring, tear out sheetrock or clean up the yard. This is the same thing many work organizations, church and civic volunteers have been doing already – we just want to encourage a single day to volunteer.
What should I wear? Work boots/sturdy shoes, long pants/long sleeve shirts, work and rubber gloves, hat, safety glasses/goggles, clothes to get dirty, mask.
What should I bring? Lunch, snacks and water for yourself or team for the day.
What tools should I bring? Hand tools such as hammer, flat or pry bar, shovel, wheel barrow, dolly (no power tools).
Who can go and how do I sign up? Call 962-4461 or email office@fbcgroves.org to sign up your team. This is simply an effort to encoura ge those who would volunteer to serve in Bridge City to do it on this day. =2 0We encourage people to organize teams of about 20 persons or less (from work, school, church, friends, etc.). We encourage those under age 18 to go with parents or adult led groups.
How will we know what to do? If you already have a person or home to help in Bridge City go there! Volunteers needing direction will be sent to specific streets or areas to volunteer. We encourage cleanup work only. We encourage group leaders and volunteers to ask homeowners to prove all electrical and gas power, as well as water are turned off before beginning any work.
Who is sponsoring this event? There is no municipal authority, school district, public or private organization holding this event. It is simply a grass roots movement to connect volunteers to the needs in Bridge City. Those volunteering assume the same risk as they would with any volunteer effort.
PASS THIS ON TO YOUR OTHERS IN YOUR AREA!

I thank the Lord daily for giving me a place to come back to. I wasnt so fortunate about my job. I was told to wait and see if they need me back. I am a single mother with no family to help me out. I do have friends but they are unable to help me financially. I do have their moral support. If anyone knows of any legal positions or secretary jobs please let me know. Im currently in Lamar trying to complete my bachelors degree and have already received my associates in legal work. Thank you and God bless.

After 28 years with the same company, I was laid off my job on Wed., Sept. 10, 2008. Two days later, Ike tore the roof off of my house and gave me a skylight from the the first floor straight through the second. My house is uninhabitable. I need a contractor for repairs and a place to live while they are being done. I have several dogs and 2 parrots so an apartment is out of the question. I have insurance for living expenses and I’m not looking for a hand-out, just a place to rent for me and my family.

My husband and I just bought our first home for our 11 month old daughter on June 17, 2008. The home was in need of much repair, but we took on the challenge with joy and excitement. The repairs took a few months since we did them ourselves. We moved in our home September 7, 2008. Ike made us leave and evacuate on September 11, 2008. Upon arriving back home we were pleased to see the roof and walls held. Once inside we learned the windows had failed and water poured into the sills and onto our original hardwood flooring. The flooring wasn’t perfect to begin with, but we had previously sanded and oiled it the best we could. With the water that Ike poured in our wood buckled and molded. We are unable to live in the house right now due to this situation. Insurance is claiming they won’t help us, and FEMA can’t show where the house is in our name even though we have a copy of the title from Stewart Title. We feel very saddened and down hearted.

Well first off I think it is great that you are even offering to help anyone, whether I get the help or another family who may need it more, I just think it is a great thing that your institution is helping the community. I unfortunately lost everything with hurricane ike. I lost my home to the 14 foot storm surge. All of belongings pretty much just floated away. I am a single mother and this is just not something that emotionally or financially I will be ever be ready for. It has broken my heart and I just dont know what to do. I dont have any family, but luckily I have made some wonderful friends. I am currently staying at my bosses house so I can get back to work. I have lost everything so anything that can be donated or loaned to me will be more greatly appreciated than you will ever know. thank you so much again.

I live and work in the U.S. Virgin Islands,I also maintain a home in Baytown, Texas that was affected by the hurricane. We sustained wind and water damage, but could not get wind and hail insurance due to the fact that the builder did not participate in the compliance program ( which requires that the shingles be nailed and not stapled), until after 1997, the year the home was built.
Unfortunately we could not obtain a certificate of compliance that the insurance companies in Texas require, therefore we will have to personally replace the roof and get the required documentation, before we can obtain insurance. This is just a heads up to those who presently own a home or are planning to build.

We were extremely fortunate considering the circumstances, but it was such a relief to check my account online and see that without even having to ask, my loan payments were deferred for a month. I really appreciate the help, and I’m sure all the other members do, as well.
